Winchester City Council commissioned us to produce a priced feasibility study for a new public room and for re-planning the internal circulation of the Guildhall with the intention of improving visitors’ experiences and complying with the Disability Discrimination Act.
The long flights of steps up to the existing first floor public entrance were a major obstacle to providing equality of access. A new main entrance was therefore designed at street level beneath the original entrance steps, shown here in the form of a photomontage.
A remodeled council chamber was proposed on the first floor with an elliptical staged seating layout. 'Flip-up' computer displays were integrated into the curved desking.
